My unforgettable visit to the Farm Santuary in Watkin Glen, NY
Last August I visited the Farm Sanctuary in Watkin Glen with my husband on a beautiful and hot Sunday. I've wanted to go there for years as I have heard how wonderful that place was for rescued farm animals. The farm is located in the beautiful Finger lakes region in Upstate New York well known for its wineries..
It brought me back to my earliest memory of my vegetarian lifestyle.
When I was 15, I decided that I would stop eating meat after I saw on the TV evening news a reportage about farm animals being sent to the slaughterhouse. I saw a veal crying. It shocked me and saddened me terribly. It changed my life.
I can't eat meat. I don't want to... I know where it's from. I am aware of all the cruelty within the meat and dairy industry and It's unbearable to me...
Back the Farm Sanctuary.... My husband and I did an hour-long guided tour of the beautiful farm home to about 500 rescued animals. I met and pet some of them!
This is me and Benedict, the little goat on a wheeled cart who came to the Farm Sanctuary through Hudson Valley backyard butcher rescue. He has lived with neurological issues but he is taken good care of there!
Here I am with Stella
And Lulu the little goat, born in safety to her mother saved from a backyard butcher.
An impressive, very big pig taking a nap. She looks happy and relaxed!
The farm is beautiful and well taken care of. I admire all the people that work there. It looks like they are doing a wonderful job. You'd say that it's more than a job when there is so much compassion, love, commitment and idealism involved.. The ideal of a better, kinder and happier life for all those animals who deserve to be treated like any other living creatures. It doesn't matter if it's a cow, a pig, a goat, a cat or a dog. All animals love and feel like any of us human.
I admire Gene Bauer, the activist, the pioneer who started it all.
Right now Farm Sanctuary is the nation's leading farm animal protection organization.
There is so much to say about Factory farming and its impact on the environment and our health. I would not know how to summarize all about it on here. Check out the Farm Sanctuary on HERE
That's a good start! :)
